Matthew McConaughey helped pass out 4,500 turkeys, which Butterball donated for the occasion, in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky on Saturday.
During a Facebook Live video, McConaughey went to the Wild Turkey Distillery and said that he and “250 volunteers are going to deliver 4,500 turkeys to people around Lawrenceburg and the volunteers that are here don’t know I’m here, so Eddie Russel’s about to invite me on hopefully to surprise them.”
“And it’s my birthday,” the 48-year-old actor added.
This was all part of the Wild Turkey Gives Back initiative, which sets out to spread holiday cheer in its hometown. The Oscar winner is a celebrity spokesman for the bourbon brand, Wild Turkey, and often does charity work with his Just Keep Livin’ Foundation.

“Thanksgiving, gratitude, we believe in our family that the more you’re thankful for, the more that you show gratification, the more that you’re gonna create in your life to be thankful for,” McConaughey told the volunteers in another video posted on his Facebook page. “I think it’s kinda scientific and here’s kind of living proof of it right here this morning.”
“Let’s go make some people happy and put some smiles on some faces, deliver some turkeys, there’s some people that are gonna be happy to get ’em,” he said. “Just keep livin’, thanks for being here.”
