SASKATOON – More families are expected to receive help at the Ronald McDonald House in Saskatoon once an expansion has been completed.

Despite the cold and wintery conditions, construction is moving along.

Tammy Forrester, Ronald McDonald House Saskatchewan executive director said crews have worked through miserable winter and things are right on schedule.

Work will be completed in two phases.

The foundation has been poured for the new expansion which is expected to open this December. After that, the existing house will be renovated to make one full functioning unit.

Private donations have helped move the project forward. Synergy 8’s support will take it even further.

After helping Saskatoon Crisis Nursery with a complete renovation last year, Synergy 8 announced this week it will landscape the backyard and install a playground.

“This is a huge one for us. It’s about kids and that’s what we’re all about, making an immediate difference in families or kids lives who are sick or need a place to stay,” said Troy Davies, spokesperson  for Synergy 8.

In four years, Synergy 8’s “Drive for Kids Campaign” has raised $1.2 million. This year, they hope the partnership collects $150,000.

The newly renovated and expanded Ronald McDonald House is expected to be complete by spring 2014.

To date, over 39,000 families across the province have received help at the house.
