Is it a disturbing trend or just a coincidence?

With one more game left in the regular season for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, one thing has become evident in the June Jones era.

Jones, who took over the head coach duties from Kent Austin prior to Labour Day, has won five games and has lost four.

In doing so, Jones is the only coach in Ticats history – and we’re talking 148 years – to have at least a .500 record after taking over the team mid-season.

It’s an amazing stat and kudos to Jones, the staff and the players for playing much better than the first half of the season in which the team went 0-8.

But as you and your pals decide whether or not Jones deserves to be the head coach of the Ticats in 2018, chew on this stat of a moment.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

After winning his first two games as head coach, Jones and the Cats have traded a win with a loss over the last eight contests.  Played out over the course of a season and the Cats are around .500.

Jones’ Ticats have averaged 29 points on offence while giving up an average of 26 against, a much better ratio that the first half of the season.

Statistics aside, Jeremiah Masoli and Brandon Banks have looked like different players under Jones, as have a few others, so he’s doing something right.

He isn’t perfect by any means, but if it were up to me, I’d lean towards bringing Jones back next season.
