Woman dies after being hit in west Edmonton crosswalk: police

A 70-year-old woman who was hit by a car in a marked crosswalk earlier this month has died of her injuries, police said on Saturday.

They said the woman died in hospital on Friday. Her death is Edmonton’s 24th traffic fatality of the year.

At about 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017, the woman was crossing 87 Avenue at 169 Street when she was hit by a car in a crosswalk, police said.

Investigators determined the car was headed north on 169 Street before turning west onto 87 Avenue at the time of the collision.

A 46-year-old man has been charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk under the Traffic Safety Act.

Police said speed and alcohol were not factors in the collision.
