The Wall of Honour in Peterborough’s Confederation Park, bears the names of over 10,000 residents of Peterborough City and County who served in the Canadian Forces during the two World Wars and in Korea.
Dedicated in 2010, the wall represented thousands of hours of work by volunteers and city staff to identify and verify service to this country by residents.
Erik Hansen, the Heritage Resources Consultant for the City of Peterborough says they knew that some people were missed. So now, residents with a name to add to the wall can contact the city by January 31st to get it added.
The criteria to get on the wall is the person must have been born in the city or county of Peterborough or enlisted in the city or the county or, after discharge, must have taken up permanent residence in the city or county prior to December 31, 1970.
“You have to have been in the Canadian Forces. One of the big things I get is I used to be in the British Navy or with U.S. Forces before I came but you have to have served in the Canadian Forces,” said Hansen.
