Days after four suspects were charged with first-degree murder in connection with his death, Raymond Beaver will be laid to rest Tuesday.

The 43-year-old husband, father and grandfather died after he was stabbed in his uncle’s home on Lansdowne Avenue last Monday night.

“He was just a devoted father, he became a grandfather recently. Just seeing children around him and what not, it just brought the love out in his eyes and out in his heart. He had a heart of gold there’s really no other way to describe it, he just had a heart of gold,” said Michele Lupa, a close friend of Beaver’s.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“He was just an all-around genuine person that would be willing to give the shirt off his back to anybody, or give them a safe haven to rest their heads for a night or whatever. He was a good guy. That’s all I can say about him. He was just a loving, fun guy to be around,” she said.

Asked how the family is coping, Lupa said it’s been hard.

“They’re all having a very, very difficult time, losing a husband, a father-figure, a father, an uncle. My children took it especially hard when we had to tell them that someone had hurt their uncle Ray and he’s gone to heaven, but they’re all working together to keep everybody uplifted as best as they can considering the circumstances.”

On Thursday, London police charged seven people, including two male youths with break and enter. The five adults were also charged with assault with a weapon.

Police announced Friday they’ve charged four of those five adults with first-degree murder in connection with Beaver’s death.

Daniel Cavanagh, 32, Melissa George, 34, Nicholas George, 18, and Peter Townsend, 20, were taken into custody last week.

All four of the suspects are from London.

Beaver’s funeral is set for 2 p.m. at the Needham Funeral Home at 520 Dundas St. in London.
