The Thanksgiving holiday long weekend means more drivers on the roads and more police as well.
OPP will be out in full force as part of “Operation Impact”.
Const. Roop Sandhu is with the Frontenac OPP.
“We’re focusing on the inattentive distracted driving as well as speeding, alcohol and drugs and seat belt constraints,” Sandhu said.
And while one isn’t more important than the others, distracted driving-related incidents continue to rise at an alarming rate. Sandhu says the numbers are trending in the wrong direction.

“This year already we’re up to 63 deaths caused by inattentive as apposed to last year in which there was 65 total so we still have 3 months to go and unfortunately it’s going to be surpassed again.”

The bottom line for the initiative is for everyone to arrive safely at their holiday destinations. Sandhu says if you’re driving, your main focus should be the road, not anything else.
“Operation Impact” runs until October 9th.
