Keith Urban performs at candlelight vigil for Las Vegas shooting victims

Keith Urban took to the stage in Nashville on Monday for a performance that held a lot more meaning than your typical show.

He performed at an impromptu event dubbed Nashville Vigil for Las Vegas, a candlelight vigil to mourn the victims of the horrific shooting at Sunday’s Route 91 Harvest Country Music Festival, which left 59 dead and hundreds injured.

According to People, Urban performed a haunting cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water, telling the crowd about trying to explain what happened to Sunday Rose, his 9-year-old daughter with wife Nicole Kidman.

“I started this morning finding out about it and being shell-shocked. My 9-year-old asked, ‘Dad, you seem quiet,’” Urban told the crowd. “I said, ‘Yeah a lot of people died last night,’ and she said, ‘Did you know any of them?’ ”

That led Urban to an epiphany. “They’re like family,” said Urban of country music fans. “It’s the one thing about country music. It is a community. I do know those people. It just hit me.”

Prior to the vigil, Urban took to Twitter to admit he feels “stilted and speechless” by what took place.

Urban’s fellow country star Garth Brooks took to Facebook in a video to share his thoughts on what took place in Vegas.

Admitting he “saw a lot of bad things,” Brooks also shared that he “saw a lot of courage. Saw a lot of love.” Watch:
