This is probably the last thing Ticats fans want to hear given what happened Saturday night at Tim Hortons Field.
Officiating, good, bad or somewhere in between, does not cost your favourite team a game. At least, that’s the opinion that I’ve always subscribed to.
There were certainly a handful of calls in Hamilton’s 43-35 overtime loss against Toronto that were horrendous, the pass interference call on defensive back Demond Washington being at the top of that list.
However, the Tiger-Cats didn’t lose because of the men in the black and white striped shirts.
The Washington PI penalty and other calls/non-calls didn’t cause the Cats’s offence to take its foot off the pedal when Hamilton took a 14 point lead early in the fourth quarter.
The officials didn’t force the Ticats’ offence to sleep walk during their only possession of the overtime period.
And the refs didn’t get in the way of Ricky Ray’s two touchdown throws to DeVier Posey, including the winner in OT.
Yes, the officials had an impact on the game – they do in most games – but they didn’t cost Hamilton the victory on Saturday night. The Ticats had their opportunities to put the Argos away and they couldn’t get it done.
