A Saturday night heartbreaker for the Ticats.

The Argos won their first ever game at Tim Hortons Field, beating Hamilton 43-35 in Saturday night.

Ricky Ray threw a 13-yard touchdown to DeVier Posey on Toronto’s opening possession of OT as the Argos overcame a 14 point deficit in the fourth quarter to improve to 7-7 on the season.

The Boatmen forced the extra period when Ray tossed a 25-yard major to Posey, who made an outstanding leaping catch between two Hamilton defenders in the endzone with 33 seconds left in regulation.  James Wilder Jr. then ran into the endzone for a two-point convert to make it 35-35.

Ray completed 25-of-38 passes for 330 yards and three touchdowns. He was also intercepted by Ticats safety Courtney Stephen late in the fourth quarter.

Tiger-Cats fans were crying foul after Stephen picked off a Ray pass early in the third quarter only to have it negated by a pass interference call on fellow defensive back Demond Washington after Toronto coach Marc Trestman threw a challenge flag on the play.

It was one of 15 penalties for 135 yards against Hamilton. Toronto was flagged seven times for 105 yards.

The Argos had lost their first eight games at Tim Hortons Field and now lead 5-9-1 Ottawa by three points for top spot in the East Division. Toronto also has a game in hand on the defending champion Redblacks.

The loss dropped Hamilton to 3-10 and leaves the Cats tied for last place in the division with 3-11 Montreal, but the Ticats have played one less game that the Alouettes.

C.J. Gable returned to Hamilton’s lineup after missing last week’s game with an injury and ran 18 times for a season high 157 yards and two touchdowns.

Jeremiah Masoli went 18-of-32 for 288 yards and two touchdowns while receiver Andy Fantuz made three catches for 23 yards in his first game since suffering an ACL injury last October.

Ticats linebacker Larry Dean made a game high eight defensive tackles and both teams recorded four sacks.

Hamilton next plays the Blue Bombers in Winnipeg on Friday, October 6.
