Just a few months ago, a boy named Harley Liu wrote a letter to the RCMP with a dream: he wanted to be one of them.
On Friday, the 10-year-old took one step toward making that dream a reality: with a Stetson on his head, he sat on an RCMP Harley.
Coverage of the RCMP Musical Ride on Globalnews.ca:
In May, Liu handwrote a letter to the RCMP saying he wanted to join the force when he grew up.
He said he wanted to become a Mountie because “serving our country is very important and RCMP is a cool job!”
Harley asked what he would have to do to become a Mountie.
And the Burnaby RCMP detachment was only to happy to set him on the path.
The detachment presented him with a Stetson and gave him a chance to sit on an RCMP motorcycle — a Harley-Davidson, of course.
“I think it’s a pretty cool job,” Harley said of being a Mountie.
“It’s like, doing what you want to and then you get paid, it’s really cool.”
Staff Sgt. Major. John Buis wanted to meet Harley after he wrote the letter.
He said the boy is “well on his way to becoming a member of the RCMP.”
