Lions Bay Search and Rescue team called out to save stranded hiker

A stranded hiker near Lions Bay was forced to spend the night outdoors.

The Lions Bay Search and Rescue team was called in after shortly before 9 p.m. Thursday because the man had taken longer than expected on his trip.

Search manager Sandro Frei says ground crews expected to reach him early Friday morning, but the rescue could take four to five hours.

Frei says the experienced hiker is on the trail near Enchantment Lake.

“We’re just going to put a team in by foot to access him and if the weather is good, then we will fly him out in the morning.”

Frei says the hiker isn’t hurt, but is running a little low on water.
