The City of Dorval‘s $15.1 million offer to buy a section of McConnell Woods has been refused by the land’s owner.

Dorval residents have been trying to protect the green space from developers; 50,000 square metres are up for sale.

“It’s just for our community. People who live in Dorval,” resident Jean Daoust told Global News in July.

In a statement from the city, Mayor Edgar Rouleau expressed his disappointment at the result.

“We are deeply disappointed that our offer was not accepted,” he said.

More than 800 people signed a petition in hopes that Dorval will preserve the space for the public.

The land is located just off of Lakeshore Road and borders Lac Saint-Louis.
