Driver injured after SUV, garbage truck collide in downtown Toronto

A driver of a garbage truck was taken to hospital with serious injuries after the vehicle was struck by a SUV in downtown Toronto overnight.

Toronto police said they responded to the crash scene just before 3 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Lake Shore Boulevard and Bay Street.

The force of the impact caused the garbage truck to flip on its side while the SUV sustained front-end damage.

The male truck driver was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

There’s no word yet on the cause of the collision.

The intersection of Lake Shore Boulevard and Bay Street was closed to traffic for several hours for the police investigation.
