An owl that became trapped in a soccer net at an Alberta elementary school is expected to make a full recovery after being rescued by RCMP officers.
The beleaguered bird was spotted by staff and students at Ralph McCall School in Airdrie on Monday morning, who then waved down RCMP.
According to a news release, the owl was conscious and breathing but “obviously quite unhappy with its current predicament.”
RCMP were assisted in their rescue by Airdrie resident Jennifer Landels, who formerly worked as a wildlife conservation volunteer.
Together, the group was able to calm the owl and remove it from the netting. It was then taken to a veterinary clinic.
Airdrie RCMP thanked students and staff at the school — and Landels — for their quick action and co-operation in rescuing the owl.
The city of Airdrie is located about 14 kilometres north of Calgary.
