Toronto police are speaking out after video emerged on social media of a cyclist performing wheelies, weaving through traffic and riding on the sidewalk in the city – Jun 30, 2017

A cyclist has been charged with careless driving after a stunt video posted on Instagram caught the attention of police earlier this summer.

The video originally posted by My Little Bike Shop’s Instagram account on June 22 shows a man on a mountain bike doing wheelies while weaving between cars, riding on the wrong side of the road and sidewalk, and running a red light.

The stunt grabbed the attention of police who posted the footage on their own Instagram account in hopes of finding witnesses of the incident.

“You have put several pedestrians in harm’s way as a result of your actions. Road safety is a shared responsibility and this type of disregard for safe riding on city streets does not forward the cycling agenda in the City of Toronto, and puts you at risk of serious injury or death.”

“It’s kind of heartbreaking to see my little poppa wheelie clip being posted on the Toronto Police Instagram account,” said the caption in the My Little Bike Shop Instagram post.

“I never even made/make anyone slow down, hit their brakes or cause them to pull last second maneuvers.”

Toronto police said a 28-year-old man has been charged with careless driving in connection to the incident. His identity has not been released.

He is scheduled to make a court appearance on Oct. 19.
