Municipal authorities in Venice, Fla. say they have been forced to shut down the city’s main water plant due to a water main break caused by Hurricane Irma.
“This means City of Venice customers will have no drinking water or water to flush toilets,” officials said in a statement posted on social media.

Venice residents will be instructed when service is restored, at which point they are to continue boiling water for drinking and cooking purposes for 48 hours, until the boil water notice is rescinded.
Millions of Florida homes and businesses were also left without electricity, as the hurricane made its way up the peninsula.
The power outages are expected to increase as the storm edges further north.
