“I’m ready to fight on behalf of the people of Saskatoon Fairview,” Mowat told a crowd of cheering supporters.
“We won the election but the fight continues, now more than ever in the face of the Sask Party’s heartless cuts, unfair tax hikes and desperate sell-offs.”
“We need a strong opposition before we form government in 2020.”
Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall tweeted out his congratulations to Mowat.
Cameron Scott from the Saskatchewan Party trailed at 31.1 per cent.

“The people of the province spoke,” Cameron said, stating a number of factors led to his defeat, including the budget.
“There were some tough decisions that were made in the budget and I think it does resonate to some extent with people.”
“Those tough decisions were made with forward-looking thoughts and looking to the future and what is in the best interests of the province.”
Cameron hasn’t ruled out running in the 2020 provincial election.
Mowat lost to Jennifer Campeau in the 2016 election, losing by 182 votes in a close race.
Campeau, who represented the Saskatchewan Party, resigned in June to take a position with a mining company. She first won the seat in the 2011 provincial election, defeating Saskatchewan NDP incumbent Andy Iwanchuk.
Prior to Iwanchuk’s loss, the NDP had held the seat since 1986.
Other candidates in the byelection were Shah Rukh for the Saskatchewan Liberals, David Prokopchuk of the P.C. Party of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Green Party’s Taylor Bolin.
The results will be made official on Sept. 19 when one additional poll for absentee votes is added to the final count.
