Rick Zamperin: Is anyone else in fantasy football heaven?

The NFL season is underway and that means two things.

1. Sundays will again be dominated by couch hoarding, TV hogging, snack munching, football fanatics until the Super Bowl in February. And 2. NFL pick ’em pools and fantasy teams will consume more of the time that we sports fans spend on our phones and tablets.

Unfamiliar with fantasy football?

In short, you draft a roster of real life players, and your fantasy team collects points based on the stats your players compile during their games. At the end of the week, if your fantasy team has more points than your opponent’s team, you win.

This week alone, I’ve taken part in three fantasy drafts. I drafted my own team in a fun pool we have at the radio station. I compiled my son’s fantasy team late Wednesday night because it was past his bed time. And last, but not least, I had to step in for my brother — who’s out of town on business — to draft his team of NFL stars last night.

I’m in fantasy draft overload, but I’m not complaining. The draft is the best part of the fantasy experience anyway… especially when you consider that I haven’t won anything for a while.
