“She said I love you and I said I love you too, and that was it.”
That’s how Ray Gauthier summed up the final words that he exchanged with his 22-year-old daughter Chelsey Gauthier, a mother to two little girls who was found dead in Mission on Aug. 16.

Global News sat down with Ray to talk about her disappearance and death, in a case for which police still haven’t found a killer. No one has been arrested, either.
Ray thinks her death was drug-related.

“If she was not doing that, she was not with those people involved with this, she would be standing with us right now,” he told Global News.

Chelsey was last seen on July 27, at a McDonald’s in Abbotsford with two unidentified men.
She was found dead almost three weeks later, in the Dale Road and Sylvester Road area of Mission.
“I could have possibly put a stop to what happened to her,” he said. “I know she would have at least listened to me a little bit.”

Chelsey’s family has said that her death can’t have been for nothing.
Ray has urged parents to stick their noses into their kids’ lives.
“Educate yourselves,” he said. “Because this is serious, this could be you tomorrow.”
A vigil for Chelsey will be held at the C-21 Youth Centre in Abbotsford at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 2.
