A date has been set for a joint coroner’s inquest into the drug-related deaths of eight inmates at Hamilton-Wentworth Detention Centre.
The jury is expected to hear from about 100 witnesses over 30 days in its examination of the circumstances surrounding the fatalities.

It may also make recommendations to help prevent further deaths.

According to the coroner, “drug toxicity” was a factor in each of the deaths, which occurred between 2012 and 2016.
The proceedings are set to begin on Jan. 2.
