A Toronto man has been charged with attempted murder after a 49-year-old man was allegedly struck in the head with a hammer.
The two men live in the same building near Lansdowne Avenue and Davenport Road. The alleged attack happened Saturday night in Earlscourt Park a short distance from the building.
The victim’s daughter, whose identity Global News has agreed to protect due to safety concerns, said there have been issues with the accused for almost 10 years.
“We can hear him through the thin walls and since 2008 he’s tried to provoke us in many ways,” the woman said. “I tried to ignore that but my dad didn’t and he tried to defend me and grabbed my dad’s throat.”
People who witnessed the attack told Global News the victim was struck in the head with a hammer at least four times.
“It was quite horrific to get the details of this,” Toronto Police Const. Allyson Douglas-Cook said.
“Someone being struck in the head several times and left unconscious, ended up being in hospital in critical care, that’s pretty significant.”
Whitley Hunter, 45, was arrested and charged with one count of attempted murder Monday. He was scheduled to appear in a Toronto court Tuesday.
