Laura Callender is a member of the Canadian women’s soccer team headed for the World University Summer Games in Taiwan.
“I’m really excited, it was a huge honour when I was selected and I can’t wait to represent Canada at this prestigious event,” she said.

The fifth-year striker for the Queen’s Gaels has been working out this summer and playing for the Kingston Clippers in the Ottawa-Carleton Premier Women’s Soccer League.
Callender says it’s the first time she’s been able to wear the maple leaf and looks forward to the international competition.
Canada’s best showing at the University Games was a fourth-place finish in 2015. Callender says the goal this time around is to reach the podium.
The games begin on Aug. 19. Canada’s first game is set for Aug. 20 against Ireland.
