RCMP are investigating a house fire in Monte Lake but have stopped short of calling it suspicious.

No one was at home when the fire started.

Also on Monday, a series of small fires started beside Highway 97 near the south end of Monte Lake.

Those fires ended up burning 3.9 hectares. On Thursday, wildland firefighters remained on scene patrolling for possible hotspots.

The wildfires are still under investigation by the B.C. Wildfire Service but it is suspected that they were human caused.

So far, police say they have not been asked to investigate the wildfires at the south end of the lake.

Neither the RCMP nor the B.C. Wildfire Service is drawing a connection at this point between the Paxton Valley Road house fire and the wildfires to the south.
