5 young men charged for trafficking fentanyl in ‘Purple Rain’ police investigation

Five young men have now been charged in Abbotsford following a lengthy investigation into drug trafficking in the community.

The investigation, called Purple Rain, specifically targeted those dealing in fentanyl and carfentanil. The Abbotsford Police Gang and Drug Unit investigated those known to be involved in the Lower Mainland gang conflict.

Charges laid include drug trafficking in fentanyl, carfentanil and cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking and firearms-related offences.

Sarabjit Singh Mann, 22, received 17 charges; Karan-jit Singh Mann, 19, received four charges; Akashdeep Singh Bhoot, 20, received nine charges, Sukhvir Singh Gill, 19, received two charges and Navkarn Singh Sandhu, 18, received one charge.

Carfentanil and fentanyl are extremely toxic, synthetic-opiate narcotics and have contributed to the record numbers of fatal overdoses in Abbotsford. Carfentanil is used as an elephant tranquilizer and is estimated to be 100 times more potent than fentanyl. Abbotsford police says these drugs have killed and will continue to kill people from novice to experienced drug users.
