A former teacher and volleyball coach in Wakaw, Sask., has been fined $10,000 and has lost his teaching certificate for a year over several professional misconduct complaints.

He also met with one of the students in private in an attempt to persuade her to retract her allegations.

The Saskatchewan Professional Teachers Regulatory Board wrote in its discipline decision Gartner’s private meeting with the student was a key factor in deciding the penalty.
