Hamilton boxer fights for another cause

A Hamilton, Ont. boxer is helping kids in need.

Steven Wilcox is headlining a professional card at the Hamilton Convention Center on Saturday, June 3.

Wilcox, who is 16-2-1, will be putting his WBA and NABA Super Lightweight title on the line against Oscar Arjona from Mexico, who is 13-5.

Wilcox is a Sports Ambassador for Have a Heart Cayman Islands, and will be donating a portion of his fight purse to the charity.

“With Steven’s generous commitment and continual efforts, he is helping to provide life-saving heart surgery to children around the world,” said Nicola Banks, Canadian Director of Health City Cayman Islands.

The Co-Main Event will feature another Hamilton champion, current NCC and WBA Canadian Super Welterweight title holder Kevin Higson (10-1-0), taking on Martin Islas  (12-2-1) of Mexico City, in an eight-round bout.

A public weigh-in will be held Friday, June 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the Boston Pizza at 1565 Upper James Street in Hamilton.
