Woodstock police are working to target those involved in the sale of bootleg fentanyl inside the city.

Chief Bill Renton stated that it should not be a surprise that the substance made its way into the community.

Two recent samples submitted to Health Canada confirmed the powdered substances as fentanyl.

According to officials, the first incident involved the bootleg fentanyl being passed off with a street name of “popcorn” in October 2016. In the second incident, the substance is believed to have been passed off as heroin.

Officers reported that four seizures in 2017 have been submitted to Health Canada for analysis, and are suspected to contain fentanyl.

Becks cautions that those using illicit drugs should not assume they know what they are buying.
