Hamilton police make arrest in city’s first homicide of 2017

Hamilton Police have arrested a man from Brampton in connection with a homicide in the city’s east end.

Police say they responded to a disturbance in the area of Parkdale Avenue North and Britannia Avenue Saturday, where they found Melvin Jn’marie, 40, in life-threatening condition, in his apartment at 210 Parkdale Avenue North.

Jn’marie was brought to Hamilton General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say the manner of his death and his injuries led them to call in the homicide unit.

Police arrested Antonio Sedano Charles, 30, of Brampton on Sunday evening and charged him with second degree murder.

Charles will appear at John Sopinka Courthouse on Monday.

Investigators believe the incident was a targeted attack.

They added “there is every indication that the suspect was an acquaintance of the victim and that this started as a minor altercation that quickly escalated.”

A post-mortem has been done and Jn’marie’s family has been notified.
