WATCH: A 62-year old woman remains in hospital and Vancouver Police are appealing for the public’s help to track down the suspect and vehicle that mowed her down in a hit and run this past Saturday night. Catherine Urquhart reports – Mar 21, 2017

UPDATE: A 67-year-old Vancouver man turned himself into police on March 22 and allegedly identified himself as the driver of the Jetta. He was arrested and later released. The investigation is still ongoing and the woman that was struck in the accident is still in hospital.

Vancouver police are looking for a suspect vehicle that fled the scene after hitting a pedestrian.

Police said just before 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, a woman was crossing at the intersection of Victoria Drive and William Street when she was struck by a southbound vehicle.

She was hit by a newer model silver Volkswagen Jetta that didn’t stop and was last seen turning west within two blocks of the collision.

The 62-year-old Vancouver woman was hit by the front of the car, causing her to go onto the hood and windshield, before flying several metres in the air and landing in the northbound traffic lane.

She was taken to hospital, where she remains in serious medical condition.

Officers collected evidence from the scene, spoke with many witnesses, and obtained video footage of the incident and the suspect vehicle.

Based on the evidence collected, police believe the driver should be aware that they had hit the pedestrian, as the vehicle would have a cracked headlight lens on the driver’s side, and possible front-end damage.

Police are asking the driver to come forward.

Anyone who may have any information about the collision, or knows the location of the vehicle, is asked to contact police at 604-717-3012 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
