Ewan McGregor has had enough of the controversy in the live-action Beauty and the Beast remake.

During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday, the actor, who also stars in the movie, voiced his thoughts on the reaction around the film’s “exclusive gay moment.” He did not mince his words, either.

McGregor joked at first, suggesting there’s a lot of overt homosexuality in both films. “There’s lots of gay sex in it… there’s a lot of gay sex in this cartoon,” he jokingly exaggerated.

It was revealed earlier in March that the film would feature Disney’s first-ever openly gay character (but, of course, there is absolutely no vulgarity or sexual content in the movie). LeFou, played by Josh Gad, has emotional feelings for Gaston, played by Luke Evans.

The announcement about LeFou was met with a mostly positive response, but there were some on social media who were up-in-arms about it.

McGregor then discussed the theatre in Alabama that cancelled its screenings of the film in response to the gay scene — and McGregor was not pleased.

“I think if you live anywhere near Alabama, you should not go and see this film. What would Jesus think?” he said.

Colbert then asked him about LeFou’s love for Gaston. “There are rumours that LeFou has gay feelings for Gaston,” he said.

As the audience cheered, McGregor quickly replied: “It’s just like… he’s a gay character. It’s 2017, for f**k’s sake.”
