Josh Paterson had a goal and an assist and Logan Flodell only had to make 16 saves as the Saskatoon Blades toppled the Calgary Hitmen 6-2 on Wednesday in Western Hockey League (WHL) action.

Kirby Dach, Gage Ramsay, Mason McCarty, Chase Wouters and Bryton Sayers also scored for the Blades (27-31-9).

Calgary (25-31-10) got late goals from Mark Kastelic and Matteo Gennaro. Cody Porter allowed four goals on 13 shots in 32:27 of action. Kyle Dumba stopped 11-of-13 shots in relief.

Saskatoon holds the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference, three points up on the Hitmen, who have a game in hand.

The Blades are back in action on Friday when the Swift Current Broncos travel to Saskatoon for the first game in a home and home series.

In other action involving Saskatchewan teams, Tyler Brown made 31 saves and Adam Brooks set up three goals as the Regina Pats downed the Broncos 4-2.

Bryan Lockner, Dawson Leedahl, Riley Krane and Wyatt Sloboshan scored for the Pats (46-12-8), who dropped from No. 1 to No. 3 in the latest CHL rankings.

Lane Pederson struck twice for Swift Current (35-21-10). Taz Burman stopped 34-of-37 shots in a losing cause.

Broncos forward Owen Blocker was handed a major and game misconduct for kneeing in the first period.

Meanwhile, teammate Matthew Stanley and Regina’s Braydon Buziak were given game misconducts for fighting in the second.
