Montreal police have new information on Catholic deacon facing child-porn charges

MONTREAL — Montreal police say they have received new information from citizens since the publication of photographs of a Montreal church deacon facing child-pornography charges.

Constable Danny Richer said police investigators are reviewing the information.

He urged anyone who has information related to William Kokesch to contact police either at their local police station of by calling Info-Crime at 514-393-1133.

Kokesch, 65, is scheduled to appear in court in Montreal Thursday morning for a bail hearing.

He was charged with possession and distribution of child pornography after police seized more than 2,000 photos, as well as computers and hard drives, at locations in Beaconsfield and Pointe Claire.

Kokesch was a deacon at St. Edmund of Canterbury Church in Beaconsfield and a spokesperson for the Catholic Church on issues of child abuse.
