Boy, 11, hit in crosswalk on way to school in central Alberta, charges pending: RCMP

RCMP said they are investigating after an 11-year-old boy was taken to hospital after being hit by a vehicle while walking to school in Penhold, Alta. Monday morning.

Police said officers were called to a collision at Hawkridge Boulevard and Highway 2A at about 8:15 a.m.

They said an 11-year-old boy was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk on his way to school when he was hit by a vehicle headed north.

Mounties said the boy was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries while the 79-year-old driver of the vehicle was not injured.

While an investigation into what happened is ongoing, police said charges were pending.
