An off-duty Saskatoon police constable has been charged with impaired driving.

Const. Trenton Dament, 45, was charged after the vehicle he was driving hit a curb at 8th Street East and Boychuk Drive early Friday morning.

Police were notified of the collision through automatic roadside assistance.

Responding officers administered a roadside test and further testing was done using a breathalyzer.

Dament, a 12-year member of the force, was charged with impaired driving and exceeding 0.08.

He is scheduled to appear in Saskatoon provincial court on the afternoon of Jan. 3, 2017.

Police officials said Dament has been assigned to administrative duties pending the outcome of his court case.

He is also subject to an internal investigation under the Saskatchewan Police Act.
