A head-on collision on Highway 1 west of Kamloops cost two people their lives Saturday morning, RCMP confirm.
Sometime before 11:30 a.m., a car and a pickup truck crashed into each other just west of the New Gold Mine turnoff, 17 km west of Kamloops.
The two occupants of the car were found dead at the scene, while the two occupants of the truck were taken to Royal Inland Hospital with unspecified injuries.
The investigation is still in its early stages, and is being led by the Kamloops RCMP’s Central Interior Traffic Services unit. It is not yet known what caused the crash.
Highway 1 is currently closed to traffic in both directions at the scene. Drivers are being asked to use the detour set up via Highway 5.
Update: Highway 1 is now open to both directions and the scene has been cleared.
