Sisters Marissa Stocker, 16, and Madison Stocker, 20, have both been playing roller derby in Lethbridge for four years, but never actually played together until this weekend.

Marissa (whose derby name is Smacklemore) used to play with junior skaters on the Windy City Wipeouts, but is now a member of an adult team called the Deathbridge Derby Dames.

Marissa said the game is faster and has more contact.

“When I played [with the Windy City Wipeouts] I had to help a lot of the kids,” she said. “When I went to adults, I realized I’m the one being helped because I’m one of the youngest. ”

Madison (who uses the derby name Mad Dawg) said she isn’t worried about her younger sister. In fact, she thinks Marissa will be stiff competition.

“She’s like the 16 year old version of me. She can skate a lot longer… and she [doesn’t] get out of breath like me.”
