TORONTO – CFL commissioner Mark Cohon says 75 per cent of the league’s franchises broke even or made money in 2012.
That translates into six of eight teams finishing in the black.
Cohon says the CFL’s two franchises in southern Ontario continue to be works in progress.
But in his annual state-of-the-league address, Cohon was upbeat about the future of both the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Toronto Argonauts.
He says he’s confident the Argos can sustain the momentum they’ve created by advancing to Sunday’s historic 100th Grey Cup at their home stadium.
And Cohon said the future looks bright for the Ticats, who are scheduled to move into a new, state-of-the-art stadium in Hamilton in time for the 2014 season.
In the meantime, the Ticats are expected to play the majority of next year’s home games at the University of Guelph with Cohon saying the league is looking to help subsidize the Ticats during the 2013 campaign.
