Edmonton police looking for ‘Grinch’ who stole Christmas decorations

An alleged thief is facing more than just a lump of coal in his stocking this Christmas after being caught on camera being more naughty than nice.

Edmonton police are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect who allegedly stole Christmas decorations from two homes in the Summerside neighbourhood.

The first incident happened around 2:20 p.m. on Nov. 28 shortly before police were called to a home on Summerside Drive, where outdoor LED projector lights, an extension cord and an outdoor timer were reported stolen.

The suspect first appears in surveillance footage when he parked a Honda Civic in the complainant’s driveway. He then exited the car and returned moments later, carrying the decorations and smoking a cigarette. The suspect then drove away.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian man, standing 5’8″ with short brown hair. He was wearing a black baseball hat, jeans and a black sweater. He was driving a silver, two-door Honda Civic with a silver cross hanging from the rear view mirror.

A similar incident was reported to police a few days later. Sometime between Friday, Dec. 2 and Saturday, Dec. 3, a suspect allegedly walked up to a different home in Summerside and unplugged a Christmas tree that was by the front door. The suspect allegedly carried it away, possibly with the help of a nearby vehicle.

The Christmas tree is described as a white, pre-lit birch tree that was decorated with silver and blue ornaments.
