Fire crews say all animals, including ducks and geese, escaped a burning barn in Kelowna’s McKinley Landing Wednesday afternoon.

A fire broke out just before 4 p.m., shutting down the road for about two hours to accommodate 23 personnel from the Kelowna Fire Department on five engines.

The barn was located across from the reservoir along the sharp curve in the road in the 1800 block of McKinley Road.

While the investigation into what started the fire continues, early indications suggest it may have been sparked by a heat lamp in the barn.

The department reminds everyone to exercise caution when using heating appliances.
