A man in his 20s was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition on Tuesday after becoming trapped underneath a CTrain in downtown Calgary.

Witnesses told Global News the man grabbed onto the mirror of a CTrain car as it was leaving the 3 Street S.E. LRT Station. They said he fell underneath the car and was dragged until the train finally stopped near Centre Street and 7 Avenue S.W.

According to police, it took an hour before emergency crews were able to free the victim.

The incident caused lengthy delays for downtown CTrain service, and also the closure of several area roads.
