Codiac RCMP in Moncton are investigating after a body was discovered in the Petictodiac River this morning.

Police say they received a call around 8 a.m. by a person walking near the Chateau Moncton Hotel.

“Police was dispatched with the fire and the ambulance,” said Codiac RCMP Spokesman Sgt. Andre Pepin. “About 40 minutes later the Riverview Fire Department recovered a body.”

It took first responders longer than usual to recover the remains from the water because of the moving current.

“At this time all we know it’s female and about 50 years old or a bit older,” Sgt. Pepin said.

Police don’t believe the body was in the river very long.

“From what we know right now we don’t believe so, probably just a few hours, but the investigation should tell us more,” explained Pepin.
