A man was killed during an elevator accident while working for an event company in downtown Toronto Tuesday night.

Toronto police said they responded to the call around 7 p.m. at One King West Hotel at Yonge and King streets.

Authorities said they located a male at a freight elevator without vital signs. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the death was a result of an industrial accident.

The Ministry of Labour has been called in for the investigation.

Ministry of Labour spokeswoman Janet Deline said the two inspectors and an engineer have been assigned to the investigation.

She said the man was on the job for Events at One King West Ltd.
