Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has arrived in Cuba, where he has met with the country’s president.
Cuban President Raul Castro — the younger brother of legendary Cuban leader Fidel Castro — has told Trudeau the island nation will not progress any faster than it already is.
Raul Castro warns that others have gone through reforms too quickly without regard to the needs of their people, leaving their citizens jobless.
He says the country must progress slowly and steadily.

The message comes as Trudeau tries to open up trade opportunities for Canadian companies who want to cash in on the Cuban government’s decision to loosen restrictions on foreign investment.
Trudeau says Canadians can be pleased that they have played a positive role in Cuba through the years.

He also says he looks forward to building on the “true friendship” between all Canadians and all Cubans.
Trudeau’s trip to Cuba is the first visit by a Canadian prime minister to the country in two decades.
