New information triggers search warrant in north end home related to ‘Project Devote’

Heavy police presence, including the identification unit surrounds taped-off home in 800 block of Selkirk Ave. CJOB

WINNIPEG — Winnipeg police have confirmed a heavy police presence including the identification unit, in the 800 block of Selkirk Avenue is related to a development in ‘Project Devote’, a joint task force involving the RCMP and the Winnipeg Police Service, but stopped short of saying which of the 28 investigations it involves.

“This is a target residence, a residence where new information has come to light,” Const. Jason Michalyshen said about taped off house in 800 block of Selkirk Avenue near Sinclair Street. “It is our belief that this residence does have some sort of tie to one of our investigations”

It’s not clear what kind of tip may have led officers to execute the search warrant at the home.

Investigators launched the task force to address unsolved historical homicides and missing persons cases, appealing to the public for leads that could help bring justice to the families of many missing and murdered exploited people in Manitoba.
