Vernon cash store employee arrested for stealing money, reporting as theft

An employee at Vernon Cash Solutions Inc. is facing potential charges after RCMP discovered an armed robbery the 39-year-old woman reported, didn’t happen.

Around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, RCMP got a report of a robbery at the store on 26th St.

“The sole employee reported a man with what appeared to be a handgun entered the business and demanded money,” Cst. Jocelyn Noseworthy said.

The employee said at the time the man fled when he was given an undisclosed amount of cash.

RCMP had issued a news release including a suspect description.

Noseworthy said an RCMP investigation later found there was no robbery.

“It was a combination of old fashioned police work in talking to people and video surveillance,” Noseworthy said.

On Friday, the woman was arrested and later released on a Promise to Appear in court on January 26th.

RCMP aren’t saying exactly how much money was involved; they are recommending charges of public mischief and theft under $5,000.
