In a preview of Lil Wayne’s controversial Tuesday night interview on Nightline, the show released footage over social media of the rapper’s thoughts on the Black Lives Matter movement.
Lil Wayne appeared confused at first. “What is it? What do you mean?” he asked. And when asked if he felt drawn to the movement, he answers: “I don’t feel connected to a damn thing that ain’t got nothin’ to do with me.”
Once reporter Lindsey Davis informed him of what the movement is, he implied that the fact that he is, in his own words, “a young black, rich motherf***er,” meant that he didn’t have to be connected to the movement.

“My life matter,” he concluded. “Especially to my b**ches.”
Lil Wayne’s comments in his Nightline interview have caused a firestorm of reactions against the rapper on social media.

The rapper has faced some backlash in recent months for his controversial opinions. In August, he led the Weezyana Festival crowd in a Black Lives Matter chant, but in September he told Fox Sports 1’s Undisputed that there was “no such thing as racism.”
In October, the A Milli hitmaker spoke to The Associated Press to reiterate his position that he never experienced racism.
The Grammy-winning rapper elaborates by stating that a white police officer saved his life. Lil Wayne recounts the infamous incident when he was 12 and accidentally shot himself in the chest.
