Winnipegger Brendan Leipsic scores AHL monthly honour

Toronto Marlies forward Brendan Leipsic has been named the AHL’s Player of the Month after putting up a league-leading 13 points in the first two weeks of the season.

The 22-year-old Winnipegger has scored three goals and 10 assists in eight games. He strung together a six-game scoring streak starting with a four point performance in the Marlies’ season-opening win over the Utica Comets on Oct. 15.

Leipsic has 37 goals and 84 assists in 147 career AHL games. He also appeared in six NHL games with the Toronto Maple Leafs, recording a goal and two assists. Leipsic was selected 89 overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
