Police have a man in custody after an armed robbery at a Saskatoon drug store.

Officers were called to the Shoppers Drug Mart in the 1200-block of 7th Avenue North just after noon on Thursday for a report of a robbery in progress.

Witnesses reported a man armed with a gun had entered the store and demanded prescription narcotics.

He fled in a vehicle before police arrived.

Officers located the vehicle in the 600-block of Confederation Drive.

Following a traffic stop, a man was taken into custody.

Police said an imitation handgun was seized and the prescription drugs were recovered.

The 22-year-old man is facing charges of armed robbery, wearing a disguise while committing an offence and breach of a court order.

He was scheduled to appear Friday morning in Saskatoon provincial court.
