One of the men accused in a brazen nightclub shooting in downtown Calgary has pleaded guilty while the other saw his charges stayed.
The shooting at TEN Nighclub happened at around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 10. Police said a gunman approached the front doors of the club and fired several shots inside, injuring a 38-year-old man.
Two Calgary men, Mohamed Elmi, 32, and Mohamed Salad, 30, were charged with numerous offences.

On Monday, Salad pleaded guilty to two counts of discharging a firearm with intent.
All charges against co-accused Elmi were stayed.
Tonii Roulston, defence counsel for Elmi told Global News his client has been in custody since the shooting.
“The trial date was to be October 17. We were prepared to proceed to go to trial.”
Elmi will be released from the Calgary Remand Centre on Monday.
“It was our position all along, was that Mr. Elmi had nothing to do with these allegations.”

According to an agreed statement of facts, Salad “walked directly into the front exterior doors between the doorman and some other people, raised the handgun to his chest level and started firing.”
Court heard, Salad fired three bullets into the nightclub and a fourth which did not enter the club.
One of the bullet struck a patron on the dancefloor who “rushed to surgery to save his life.”
According to court documents, the victim lost a kidney as a result of the incident and “suffers from pain and discomfort as well as permanent injury.”
The case will be back in court Oct. 20 when the Crown and defence are expected to make a joint submission for Salad’s sentence.
It’s expected the other charges against Salad will be withdrawn at the sentencing hearing.
